Virtual West African Drumming
Description
This free software is available for download and can be installed on a PC or Macintosh computer. It offers a full 'hands on' practical exploration of an aspect of music from a computer workstation, integrating performance, composition and aural perception. The software explores the exciting music of the Ewe people from Ghana.
Using the QWERTY keyboard students will be able to take part in a 'virtual' ensemble performance of Gahu, one of the most popular forms of dance-drumming. Strong links to dance will be featured, and the cultural context of the music can be explored. In addition, using step-by-step instructions, it will be possible to compose a piece of dance-drumming which can be saved as an audio file.
