Students will learn determine their maximum heart rate and target heart rate range.

60 minutes: Entire activity

Description

Students will calculate their maximum and target heart rates. They will take their heart rate either on their neck or arm and determine which activities they need to perform to reach their target heart rates.

This lesson is one part of a larger unit, Health. While completing this unit students will learn about how to evaluate gyms, fitness machines, bulk building options, and learn how to nourish their body to participate in athletic events.

Materials

• Copies of the Heart Rate student worksheet
• Gyms, Equipment, & Sports Nutrition PowerPoint

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Distribute the Heart Rate worksheet to students and have them work individually.
2. Ask students to answer the questions on the worksheet and turn it in for grading. Allow time for physical activity during class or assign physical activity as homework.
3. Ask students to share what activities they need to perform to reach their target heart rates (THR).

End of Unit Assessment
