Anticipatory Set
Students will already be familiar and have a strong understanding of English grammar, punctuation and capitalization rules. This is a review activity for the 5th grade ELA state exam.
Procedure
- Teacher will show the BrainPop movies, "Punctuation" and "Capitalization" on the SMART Board to review grammar rules. As a class, the students will complete the online quiz.
- The Editing SMART Notebook file contains an excerpt from a children's novel. Teacher has purposely created grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors.
- On each slide, students will find the errors on each of the pages of the notebook file. They come up to the board and will use the highlighter function as well as the various colored SMART Board pens to make these corrections.
- As a follow up to the activity students will go to site Power Proofreading to practice their editing skills,
