Subject

Grade Levels
Commencement, 9th Grade
Assessment
Students will create a brochure about a winter or summer resort in an assigned French-speaking country. The brochures will be graded using a rubric completed by the teacher.
Learning Context/ Introduction
This learning experience is taught in French II. In this learning experience, students will learn to identify items and activities that are found in summer and winter resorts. By learning these words, students will be able to go to one of these resorts in a French-speaking country and communicate. The students will make a brochure for a resort.
Duration
This will be a 42-minute, four-day learning experience. One period is needed to teach and review the vocabulary. Planning and creating the project will take three days.
Essential Question
Would you be able to communicate with someone at a winter or summer resort in a French-speaking country?
Instructional/Environment Modifications
Class will be held in the school computer lab for three of the days.
Procedure
On the first day, the vocabulary is introduced. This is done using PowerPoint flashcards. They will be shown to students on the SMART Board, and while going over the new words, students will write the definitions down in their notes. To reinforce this new vocabulary, at the beginning of the period every day, a review of these flashcards will be done with the students. The project directions and rubric will then be displayed and students will begin a rough draft for the remainder of the period.
On days two, three and four, students will work on their projects in the computer lab. They may complete their projects in Microsoft Publisher or The Print Shop.
Reflections and Feedback
The students enjoyed being able to make up their own resort. Most students were very creative in the resort activities and amenities. They worked diligently on this project and used every minute of the three class sessions.
One thing I would do next time is remind students to save their work. A few students opened their work the second day and found out that a lot of their work was missing.
I am looking forward to attending one of these resorts soon!
Student Work
I have attached copies of the brochures completed by my French students.
