    • Note - For the grade level and grade band standards, RI and RL are included to show how the standard applies to either reading informational (RI) or literary texts (RL), or both (RI & RL).
            • Component - 8W2a:
              Introduce a topic clearly, previewing what is to follow; organize ideas, concepts, and information, using strategies such as definition, classification, comparison/contrast, and cause/effect.
            • Component - 8W2b:
              Develop a topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples; include formatting, graphics, and multimedia when useful to aid comprehension.

              Use precise language and content-specific vocabulary to explain a topic.

            Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. Apply grade 8 Reading standards to both literary and informational text, where applicable.
