In this lesson, students will be able to able to identify their career interests by completing an online career survey(s), research their chosen career using the internet and present their finding to the class in a PowerPoint presentation.

Objective
The Student Will:
A. Complete 2 career inventory surveys
B. Research a career choice and answer the following questions:
1. What are the training/educational requirements?
2. What do you do in this job? What is a typical day like?
3. What is the average salary? How much can you except to earn?
4. What is the employment outlook for the future?
5. Describe the working conditions
C. Present their career information/research to the class in a PowerPoint presentation
Materials
Computers, Internet Access, Printer, Paper, Overhead Projector
Activities
Day 1: Complete Career Inventory Survey(s)
Step 1: The students will complete career interest surveys from:
Princeton Review
Step 2: Have the student print the results (to each) and answer the following questions:
1. What you think of the results?
2. Are they accurate? Why or why not?
Day 2/3/4: Career Research and Presentation Preparation
Step 1: Have the student’s research 1 of the recommended jobs from the results of their surveys, using internet sites such as:
U.S. Department of Labor
Step 2: The students will need to answer the following questions:
1. What are the training/educational requirements?
2. What do you do in this job? What is a typical day like?
3. What is the average salary? How much can you except to earn?
4. What is the employment outlook for the future?
5. Describe the working conditions
Step 3: The students will create a 5-minute PowerPoint presentation in order to present their career research to the class
Step 4: The students should create a title slide, conclusion slide and a minimum of 1 slide for each of the following questions regarding their career research:
1. What are the training/educational requirements?
2. What do you do in this job? What is a typical day like?
3. What is the average salary? How much can you except to earn?
4. What is the employment outlook for the future?
5. Describe the working conditions
*Remind the students to use pictures, images, tables, charts, references, etc. to enhance their presentation
Day 5/6: Student Presentations:
Step 1: The students will present their 5-minute career research presentation to the class
