Description
Students will compare red, yellow, and green apples and record findings in their journals.
After comparing a red, yellow, and green apple have the child draw a picture of each in their journal labeling it with the correct color word. (note-word may be scribed by an adult, a copy of the word may be glued on the page, or the child may write it himself.)
Next, take three apples of the same weight and weigh them using a bucket balance and a non-standard unit of measure(e.g. bears or unit cubes).
Peel and core one apple. Peel and chop another apple. Leave the third apple whole.
Each day have the students weigh each apple separately and record the weight on a chart .
Do this for five days, making comparisons and drawing conclusions as you progress.
