Procedure

Procedure

Day 1

Step 1: By using the Power Point with the SMART Board the following will be accomplished: Discuss and show examples of trees and how they are different in all four seasons.  For example, discuss how in autumn the leaves change color and fall off.  Discuss the question while looking at various autumn landscapes... what makes this an autumn landscape?

Step 2: Begin drawing the landscape together using the SMART Board as a reference and to demonstrate.  When drawing the following discuss what they are and how to draw them: Start with the horizon line, then draw the trunk, add branches, then add details to the picture such as a sun, fallen leaves, texture to the tree, and an animal hole.

Step 3: Discuss the various animals that would climb or be around trees.  Show examples of animals and then the students may draw an animal either on the tree, in the air, or on the ground.

Step 4: Discuss the various insects that would be on or around trees.  Show examples of insects and then the students may draw an insect either on the tree, in the air, or on the ground.

Day 2

Step 1: By using the SMART Board and the Power Point presentation review and discuss the previous class.  Next, with a marker, the students are to trace all of their pencil lines.  Discuss with the students what to do when they are using markers and if they make a mistake.

Step 2: Using crayons the students are to color their whole picture remembering to color the sky all the way to the horizon line.  Discuss with the students what color the leaves should be in the autumn season.  Discuss with the students what color the various animals and insects should be.

Day 3

Step 1: Using the SMART Board and the Power Point presentation discuss and review the whole project.  Next, together as a group each student is to fill out their checklist.  Discuss with the students why they are filling out the checklist and what each item in the list means.

Step 2: Allow time for the students to walk around the room observing their classmates drawings.

Step 3: Discuss the original question:  What makes all of these drawings an autumn landscape?
