Description

Western New York and Buffalo have venerable African American communities with roots firmly embedded in the history of the region. African Americans were among the area’s earliest settlers and were counted among the residents of the newly incorporated City of Buffalo in 1832. As the city grew and developed, the African American community developed and established its institutions, organizations and social structure. African American women were and still are instrumental in the community’s development. This site is an excellent resource for researching the history and contributions of some of the extraordinary individuals that helped shape the WNY region. It also includes other Uncrowned Queens that are searchable by cities in New York.
