  • Identify sequence of events
  • Match pictures and sentences
  • Complete a timeline

Language Objectives:

Students will be able to:

  • Identify clue words that signal sequence

Social/Behavior:

  • Students will work in groups to build a timeline.

Materials:

Teacher: SMART Board,

Students: SMART Board, worksheet: " The man, the boy and the donkey"

Duration: 45 minutes

Pre-requisite: folktale was previously presented to students. Students in this lesson will work on finding the sequence of events in order to build a timeline.

Step-by-step Procedure:

Anticipatory set:

Begin discussion reviewing the folktale that was introduced a day before "The man, the boy and the donkey". Remind students what was taught in the end of this folktale.

Procedure:

1. Prior knowledge:

Activate prior knowledge using "daily activities" slides # 1 through 10. Ask students to tell what is happening in each slide.

Teacher will tell students to look for clues in the pictures (i.e. time of the day, or clock or an activity). On slide # 9 and #10, students will read the sentences and drag the sentences to the respective picture. Teacher will monitor students.

Check their answers.

Hand out the folktale story and read aloud with them again. After reading the story, have students come up to SMART Board to list events from the story. Also, write down the events on the SMART Board as students say them. Have students select a particular event. Explain that they will build a timeline to review the sequence of events in the folktale "The man, the boy and the donkey".

2. Presentation:

Give students a blank sheet and ask them to choose a particular event on which to write one complete sentence describing the event in the story.

Invite one student to read the sentence to the class.

3. Guided Practice:

Begin the timeline process by having students divide themselves into three groups based on when their event happened in the story. For example: beginning, middle and end.

Students can share their sentences with the class and the class may make changes to the location of the students along the timeline. Students then will use the timeline graph on the SMART Board to write their events in sequence.

4. Assessment/Independent Practice:

Have students complete timeline on SMART Board.

5. Closure:

Students will volunteer to play interactive SMART Board game: Match the pictures with the events.

Assessment:

Student participation in SMART Board Notebook activities. Student performance on homework assignment.

Homework:

  • write something you know how to do that might be written out in steps. For example how to prepare your favorite dish, how to play your favorite board game etc.To complete rubrics.
