Step-by-Step Procedure
- Students will be introduced to and guided through the manipulative set up rules of "Hands-on Equations" system in the first three pages of the attached SMART Notebook lesson.
- The teacher will show an example of how to set up and solve an equation in the SMART Notebook slides 4-7.
- Students will volunteer to come up to the SMART Board to set up and solve given equations.
- Page 13 in the Solving Equations SMART Notebook may be used on as needed basis anytime students need the visual.
- The teacher will offer assistance and guidance to students as needed in solving equations.

Description
In this lesson, students use virtual manipulatives to solve equations with whole numbers. This lesson could be used as an introduction to solving equations as well as review for students who may not have mastered the concept of solving equations the algebraic way.
