"Awesome Adjectives" by ECSDM

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Slide 1 – Students will chorally read the first verse of the “Adjective Song.” Then they will identify the definition of an adjective. Interactively, a student will click on the rectangular box for the correct answer. Students will then copy the definition in their ELA notebook.
  2. Slides 2 through Slide 8 – Students will read the adjective poster and elicit words that could describe the pictures. The teacher will record responses on the SMART Board and students will copy them in their ELA notebook.
  3. Next, students will be given the opportunity to drag the black geometric figure to see the hidden adjectives. In their ELA notebook, students will complete the sentences with the adjectives recorded on SMART Board.
  4. Finally, various students will read their descriptive sentences.
  5. Slide 9 – Using the SMART Board, students will highlight the boxes in each row that contain adjectives that could describe the nouns listed in the first column.
  6. Slide 10- Students will listen to a short video from United Streaming titled "Adjectives for Armando" which will review and reinforce the lesson.
  7. Slide 11- Print this slide and have them circle the adjectives in each sentence.

Description

This English Language Arts lesson will assist  ESL students in identifying adjectives. Students will be able to recognize the different ways that adjectives can describe a person, place or thing.
