Writing a Persuasive Paragraph by ECSDM

Objectives
- To distinguish between fact and opinions
- To state one's opinion on a topic
- To provide examples and/or detail to support an opinion
- To write a persuasive paragraph
Procedure
- Introduce persuasion by showing several ads from magazines and asking students what these companies hope to accomplish with their ads.
- Show the second SMART Board slide and discuss.
- Tell students that the lesson's objective is for them to use persuasion effectively in a written paragraph.
- Tell students that persuasive writing start with an opinion or point of view on a subject.
- Show SMART Board slide three and discuss. Ask students to express their opinions about their own talents and good qualities. Record.
- Show students slide four and discuss that opinions need to be backed up with examples or details in order to be convincing.
- Students choose one of their attribute and create an attribute/example web similar to slide four. They need as least three examples or details in their web.
- Use SMART notebook slide five to show students how to turn their ideas into a well-constructed paragraph.
- Students write their persuasive paragraph.

This lesson should take approximately 60 minutes.
