Description

Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is a day to honor fallen soldiers who have given their lives for our country. Although Waterloo, New York is officially recognized as the birthplace of this holiday, many towns planned similar memorials in the wake of the Civil War. The following websites describe the origins of Memorial Day and feature soldiers' firsthand accounts of their war-time experiences.
