Using the handout, have students color blocks in correct sequence. Students can then take color strip home to retell the story to their family.
Description
After reading the story, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr., have your students create a strip of unifix cubes whose colors correspond to the colors of the animals in the story.

Procedure
- Read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to the class.
- Pass out individual bags of unifix cubes to the students.
- Together as a group, reread the story. When a new animal is introduced in the story, have the students add a unifix cube that corresponds to the animal's color. (Make sure that students start with the red cube on the left and add cubes to the right of the strip.)
Duration
Reading the story: 5 minutes.
Identifying colors activity: 10-15 minutes.
Check for Understanding
Using the unifix blocks, have students retell the story in a group or individually.
Comments
Use an orange unifix cube for the goldfish or spray paint cubes gold.
Preparation
Place one of each color unifix cubes in individual sandwich bags.
Make copies of the handout.
