Description
All Algebra 1 textbooks provide ample practice problems that ask students to factor expressions from binomials to trinomials to the difference of two perfect squares. This PowerPoint should serve as a resource that can be used over multiple days to lead students through the thought process involved in factoring.
The pedagogy involves formal presentation of the idea, followed by time to allow students to "think" about the solution before sharing the actual answer with the class. The teacher must orchestrate this as he or she presents the PowerPoint. The teacher is expected to narrate the PowerPoint - it is not designed to serve the purpose of presenting "notes" to the student.
PowerPoint Presentation
The PowerPoint presentation is designed to be used over a 4-day period. This allows for the gradual introduction of the concept of factoring polynomials. Each time the background color and cartoon characters change, the day's lesson has been completed. Each segment includes practice problems at the end. Make sure that you do not click too quickly or you will reveal the answers before the students in your class have calculated them for themselves! Please feel free to add to or edit the PowerPoint to fit your particular needs.
