Description

This is an interactive web-based resource that enables students to experiment with mean, median, and mode by adding or deleting blocks on a bar graph.

Mean is the sum of a list of values, divided by the total number of values in the list. Another name for the mean is the "average."

Median is the middle value in a list of numbers that have been sorted in ascending order. If the list has an even number of entries, the median is equal to the sum of the two middle numbers divided by two. Simply put, the median is the value in the middle.

Mode is the most frequently occurring value. If there is more than one value that has the highest frequency, the data has more than one mode. Simply put, the mode is the value that occurs the most.

Students can use the accompanying Exploration Questions to guide their investigations.
