(1) CDOS.C.3b Students who choose a career major will acquire the career-specific technical knowledge/skills necessary to progress toward gainful employment, career advancement, and success in postsecondary programs.

Chapter 13: The Promotion Strategy: Developing and Managing Sales

Explain the role of personal selling in businesses. Define the two types of selling situations. Describe the kinds of training needed by salespeople.Identify the components of sales planning. List the elements that are involved in directing sales. Discuss the procedures used in evaluation sales performance.

Describe the difference between the entrepreneurial role and the management role of a new business owner. Identify the management functions. List the key elements in a positive business climate.

Chapter 15: Managing Purchasing and Inventory

Describe the importance of planning purchases. Identify facors that affect purchasing.Examine inventory procedures used by small businesses. Explain the importance and types of inventory control. 

Chapter 16: Production Management and Distribution

Discuss how entrepreneurs develop new products. Explain the product development process. Explain what is involved in production management. Describe the activities that are part of distribution management. 

Chapter 17: Managing Operations and Staffing

Explain the significance of operational plans. Describe the purpose of operating policies, rules, and regulations. Explain the staffing process. Determine the need for additional policies. 

Chapter 18: Managing Human Resources

Identify the components of human rescouce management. Explain how managers influence motivation. Describe ways to maximize employee performance. Explain the importance of delegation. Explain how to assess motivational techniques used to increase performance levels.
