Front Cover: The Little Building That Came Home. Illustrated by Julie Messina. By Michael L. Horning Jr.
Page 1: Once upon a time, long before grandmother was born, there was a great fair in Buffalo, New York. People came from all over the world to go to this wonderful event.
Page 2: At the fair, people loved all the beautiful buildings. Some buildings were very big. And some buildings were very small.
Page 3: One little building was very special. People at the fair would pass by and say, 'Look at that cute little building!' The little building was very happy and very proud. Everyday at the fair, the little building had so much fun watching all the people walk by.
Page 4: By the end of that summer, in the year 1901, the fair had ended and people stopped coming to see the little building. With no one around, the little building was very lonely and very sad.
Page 5: One day, the little building saw a group of workers. They started to take down all the buildings of the fair! They took down the big ones! And they took down the small ones! The little building worried, wondering what would happen next.
Page 6: Just then, a man came by and talked to one of the workers. The man pointed to the little building and said, 'I'll take that one.' Later, a big beautiful horse pulling a wagon stopped in front of the little building. The workers put the little building on the wagon. The horse started pulling the wagon and the little building was carted away.
Page 7: After a short trip, the wagon stopped and the little building was placed next to a pretty house. Over many years, different people moved in and out of the house. But every one of them that lived there would say, 'Look at that cute little building!'
Page 8: One day, a family with three little girls moved into the house next to the little building. The three little girls played in the little building everyday. They played house. They played with their dolls. They had tea parties. And they even played chase around the little building.
Page 9: Everyday the three little girls played with the little building. The three little girls loved the little building and the little building loved them.
Page 10: As the years went by and the three little girls grew older, they had less time to spend with the little building. Before long, the three girls had to move away. They all said, 'Goodbye' to the little building. Once again, the little building felt very lonely and very sad.
Page 11: Often, the little building would remember the happy and fun days spent playing with the three little girls. The little building also remembered back to those special days at the great fair. And still, the little building felt very lonely and very sad.
Page 12: Noticing how lonely and sad the little building was, the mother of the three girls felt sorry for the little building. She asked herself, 'How could I cheer up this sad little building?' Soon, she realized the answer to her question. She could take the little building back home to the city of Buffalo! There in Buffalo, people could again come from all over the world to see the little building.
Page 13: The mother called Buffalo's history museum. She told the people at the museum the story of the little building. The people at the museum were very excited to hear about the little building. After all, before knowing of the little building, it was believed only a few buildings were known to survive the fair.
Page 14: The museum and the mother agreed it was time to bring the little building back home to Buffalo
Page 15: Before long, a big truck with a crane came to help move the little building. A large crowd of people gathered to see this event. Even the three girls came back to see the little building move back to Buffalo. The little building thought it was very exciting to see all the people, especially the three girls.
Page 16: The little building rode on the truck all the way to the history museum in Buffalo
Page 17: At the museum, people came from all over to see the little building. When they saw the little building they would say, 'Look at that cure little building!' Sometimes, even the three girls came to visit, which made the little building very happy.
Page 18: Once again, the little building felt very special. Everyday, the little building had fun seeing all the people walk by. During the week, there were hundred of children on school trips visiting the museum. On the weekends, countless families enjoyed seeing the little building. The little building was very happy and very proud. Finally, the little building had come back home to Buffalo and was never lonely or sad again. The End.
