| Parent/Child Activity: A Perfect Place to Play |
 |
 |
Purpose: Children will find motivation and assurance in routines for study in home.
Take a few minutes with your child to …
Talk to your child about the outdoor places where children usually play in or near the area where you live. Explain to your child that children play in different settings. Explain that some children play in open fields, some on city blocks, and some in established playgrounds. If there are reasons that children do not play outdoors where you live, discuss those reasons with your child.
Ask your child to think about and describe the ideal outdoor play facilities or play place for children. Urge your child to use his or her imagination to create the perfect play area for children. Add your ideas, too.
Help your child use crayons and/or other drawing materials to sketch the outdoor play area the two of you together have imagined.
Work with your child to compose a letter to a local government official, enclosing the sketch and suggesting the building of the ideal outdoor play area you and your child have envisioned.
Explain to your child that you might receive no reply or a negative response to your letter, but that active, caring citizens plan for and suggest ways for communities to have a brighter future. Help your child find satisfaction in having offered a suggestion rather than in seeking a reply.
