Materials & Resources

  • Movie "The Odyssey" (1997)
  • Similarities and Differences information from Lesson 4 closure activity
  • One copy of "Odyssey I have, Who has" vocabulary game

Pre-Class Preparation: After printing the document, the teacher will need to cut the "cards." There will be seventeen cards total.

  • Odyssey I have Who has GAME.doc
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

Anticipatory Set: As students enter class, randomly hand out the vocabulary game cards. (Depending on class size, not all students will receive one. ) Have students all sit quietly and the student who has the card that has "Start" on it will begin the game. The game is designed so that the students need to listen carefully to the definition and if they have the word that matches the definition, they read their card. (I often have students play once, switch cards with someone and then play again.)

    1. Review similarities and differences between the text and movie as noted in the closure activity of the last lesson.
    2. Continue viewing the movie.

Closure: Have students each make two predictions for the rest of the story. Share with the class and discuss.

    Assessment

Student participation in "I have, Who has" vocabulary review game.
Student participation in making predictions for the rest of the story.
