Sample Math Assessments for Grades 3 - 8 Now Available

During the first two weeks of March, students across New York will be taking the state math assessments. In preparation of the upcoming exams, NYLearns.org has entered sample tests in the Assessment Builder. Using this tool, registered users can create printable versions of the complete exams, or search for and compile specific questions to create customized worksheets.

Improvements Made to NYS Assessment Builder

The NYS Assessment Builder is one of the most widely used tools in NYLearns.org. NYLearns.org has, with permission, digitized NYS assessment and Regents Exam questions and aligned them to the Learning Standards at the performance indicator level. Educators across the state use the Assessment Builder to create printable tests for their students. Using these assessments, educators can identify student weaknesses and provide educational resources and additional practice questions in areas of need.

We are always interested in hearing about the many different ways teachers use NYLearns.org. This story came to us via Howard Gissinger, Technology Staff Developer for Region 7 in New York City. Mr. Gissinger was very impressed with the ingenuity of one of his teachers, Ms. Simonton. As a second grade teacher, Ms. Simonton always looks for creative ways to engage her students and their parents.

NYLearns.org Partners with Focus Schools in Buffalo

The University at Buffalo's Center for Applied Technologies in Education (CATE) has partnered with the Buffalo Public Schools to provide training on the web-based application NYLearns.org. NYLearns.org is a standards-based, educational website that offers resources to enhance teaching and learning.

NYLearns.org is pleased to announce that the Education Podcast Network (EPN) has joined the ever-growing list of content providers in the NYLearns.org initiative.

Podcasts, audio files that are similar to radio broadcasts, offer unique opportunities for learning. EPN, a website dedicated to exploring issues of teaching and learning in the 21st century, recognized that high-quality podcasts could potentially be used to enhance instruction. They have since assembled a diverse collection of educational podcasts and organized them by discipline. Teachers, students, and life-long learners can listen to the podcasts on-line or they can download them to an MP3 player.
