NYLearns.org Integral Part of Buffalo Public Schools' Strategy to Increase Student Performance

In early September, Dr. James Williams, Superintendent of the Buffalo Public Schools, invited private sector companies interested in working with the district to participate in an in-depth discussion about the academic needs of Buffalo students. Dubbed the Curriculum Think Tank (CTT), more than 20 companies, representing providers of curriculum materials, technology applications, professional development and assessment and accountability resources, were in attendance.

New Content Providers in NYLearns.org
Establishing new partnerships with notable content providers is an on-going priority within our NYLearns.org initiative. Over the past few months, we have focused on improving content in mathematics that closely correlates to the new 2005 Math Standard.

What will be on the 2006 Mathematics Tests for Grades 3 - 8?
Beginning in March 2006, students in Grades 3 - 8 will take the state Mathematics Tests, which assess both the content and the process strands of the new math standard. Each question is aligned to a performance indicator in a content strand, as well as one or more performance indicators in the process strands. Because students will be assessed on both their content knowledge and their procedural knowledge, teachers should integrate the process strands into instruction whenever possible.
